From March 11th to 22nd, the MAAM Foundation proudly represented at the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This significant event brought together global leaders, activists, and organizations dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women worldwide.
The CSW, established in 1946, is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. This year’s session focused on the theme “Accelerating the Achievement of Gender Equality and the Empowerment of All Women and Girls by Addressing Poverty and Strengthening Institutions and Financing with a Gender Perspective.” As a participant, MAAM Foundation contributed to crucial discussions on how targeted efforts to alleviate poverty, bolster institutional support, and finance gender-responsive initiatives can drive progress towards gender equality.
MAAM Foundation’s delegation engaged in a series of high-level dialogues, workshops, and side events, sharing insights and strategies on tackling the systemic barriers that hinder women's empowerment. Our representatives emphasized the importance of comprehensive approaches that not only address immediate economic needs but also fortify institutional frameworks and ensure sustainable financing for gender equality.
One of the key takeaways from CSW68 was the recognition that poverty is both a cause and a consequence of gender inequality. The MAAM Foundation underscored the need for integrated policies that simultaneously address economic deprivation and institutional weaknesses, advocating for gender-responsive budgeting and investment in programs that uplift women and girls. By highlighting successful case studies and innovative practices, our delegation demonstrated how targeted interventions can break the cycle of poverty and empower women to achieve their full potential.
Through active participation, the MAAM Foundation not only showcased its ongoing projects and initiatives but also forged new partnerships with like-minded organizations committed to gender equality. These collaborations are expected to enhance our efforts to implement sustainable solutions that address the unique challenges faced by women, particularly in impoverished and underserved communities.
Attending CSW68 has reaffirmed MAAM Foundation’s commitment to addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective. We return from New York more inspired and determined to drive change, equipped with new knowledge and strengthened by the connections made during this impactful session.
